Why Promote and Support Agritourism in your Community

Why Promote and Support Agritourism in your Community ... ?

To improve quality of life for visitors and residents alike
To preserve farm land and open spaces in rural America
To create and preserve sources of fresh locally grown food
To create a place for families to experience agriculture

Promotion of Agritourism enables preservation of family farms …
the backbone of rural America

Early in our history, this country was a land of farmers, settling from coast to coast while providing food for their families. Through the years the number of farmers has decreased, and the number of families fed per farmer has increased. Today, farmers represent less than 2 percent of the U.S. population, yet they provide food for 100 percent of our country an a portion of the rest of the world, as well.

Fewer people are around who remember what it was like to grow up on a farm. Some have experienced farm life by visiting grandparents or relatives in rural America. Families should have the opportunity to learn that food is produced on a farm and is not just a product of the local grocery store.

With the decline of small family farms in rural America, it is important that we provide the remaining ones all of the tools possible to survive and prosper.

We are working with farmers across the USA to promote heritage tourism, providing tools for a ‘farm fresh’ approach to marketing and Internet publishing.
